37 GENOVESE ASSOCIATES BUSTED FOR GAMBLING
An offshore gambling operation that attracted thousands of bets a week was busted last week.
The Genovese crime family used an East Rutherford restaurant, known as Caffe Roma, as a base of operations in New Jersey. The bets that were taken in at the restaurant were then transferred electronically to Costa Rica, where sports betting is legal.
The investigation known as “Operation Jersey Boyz” has netted 37 out of 43 people while also seizing upwards of $1 million in cash and 25 firearms. The suspected ringleader of the operation, Joseph “The Eagle” Gatto, who is a reputed Genovese capo, was among those arrested.
